San Angelo Man Sentenced for Hit-and-run Crash That Injured Driver

SAN ANGELO,TX – A San Angelo man has been sentenced to four years deferred adjudication probations which could turn into 2 to 5 years in prison.

According to court documents, on February 9, 2021, the San Angelo Police Department responded to a crash that occurred in the early afternoon. The victim's vehicle was struck by a Silver Chevrolet pickup truck while trying to turn onto South Koenigheim Street.

After the crash, the Chevrolet pickup left the scene and did not attempt to leave information or render aid. The victim was able to get pictures of the truck and of the truck’s license plate.

The victim was taken to Shannon Hospital with a possible broken wrist, tendon damage, and a large cut that had to be bandaged and treated as to prevent infection.

The San Angelo Police Department Public Information Officer put out a request for public help in finding the Chevrolet pickup and the suspect. After the police put out a picture of the truck and its license plate, they received a tip that the pickup was parked outside of the Angry Cactus Restaurant located at 1 West Concho Avenue.

Police and investigators went to the Angry Cactus and did match the pickup with the one from the crash. The owner of the Angry Cactus advised that Carlos Perez was driving the pickup on the day in question.

Perez told investigators that the victim pulled out in front of him and he was scared and fled the scene.

Carlos Perez has been sentenced to four years deferred adjudication probation. Should Perez fail to meet the terms of his probation he’ll be confined in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for not more than five years or less than two years or, confinement in the county jail for not more than one year and a fine not to exceed $5,000.00 or both the fine and confinement.
