Lubbock Man Pleads Guilty to Stealing Firearms

 

LUBBOCK,TX- A Lubbock man plead guilty recently to stealing nearly 40 firearms.

According to court documents, police were called for a report of a burglary in the early morning hours on May 28, 2021.

Security video showed the suspect had a backpack, mesh laundry bags, and a crowbar. The suspect began filling the bags with firearms and left.

38 firearms in total were missing from Gebo’s Distributing, Inc.

Investigators found 4 firearms in the field next to the business but did not find the other 34.

On May 30, the suspect, Mark Anthony Lara, and a woman were stopped by a Lubbock County Sheriff deputy on a traffic stop. While the deputy had them stopped, the barrel end of a pistol was seen under the passenger seat where the woman was sitting.

Law enforcement found 5 firearms in the vehicle. One was discovered in the trunk wrapped in a red hoodie which investigators noticed was the same from the security footage.

Mark Anthony Lara was arrested, indicted, and then plead guilty. He faces 10 years in prison.
