When they arrived, the officers discovered a Silver Jeep SUV that had been hit in the rear. The other vehicle was no where to be seen.

The driver of the Jeep was taken to Shannon due to the injuries from the crash. The affidavit reveals that she suffered a broken wrist as well as tendon damage from a laceration to her leg.

Officer on scene were able to find a witness who said that they followed the other vehicle. The witness described it as a silver Chevrolet pickup with Arizona license plates.

Police issued a press release, on Feb. 11, urging the public that if anyone knew the owner of the truck to contact PD.

Later that day, police received a tip that the truck was parked outside one of San Angelo's most known restaurants, the Angry Cactus. Officers went to the 0 block of Concho and found the silver chevy truck with clear damage to the right front of the truck.

Officers went inside and found the owner of the truck who quickly told officers that he was just driving it. He gave the officers the owner's phone number who also would not take the blame for the crash.

He said the co-owner of the pickup, Carlos Perez, had been driving the truck that day but had said someone had backed up into him. When police talked to Perez he said that the victim had pulled out in front of him which caused the crash. He also admitted to leaving the scene because he was scared.

Perez was then arrested and charged with accident involving injury. His bond is set at $25,000 and he was released the following day. The only other arrest on record for Perez was a public intoxication in 2017.

Perez was indicted for the charge on May 12, 2020 and took a plea deal on Aug. 12, 2021.  The plea deal places Perez on deferred adjudication probation for four years.
