Armed Angry Man Dead in Officer Involved Shooting

 

ABILENE, TX – On Saturday, June 26, 2021, just after midnight, police were dispatched to a home in the 1300 Block of Grape Street in North Abilene on a call of a welfare check.  A female caller indicated that a subject was armed with a handgun and it was feared that he would harm her then himself.

Officers arrived at the home, where they encountered an armed man outside the residence who was pacing around a vehicle.  The man was agitated and behaving erratically.  Officers attempted to negotiate with him but he pointed the handgun at himself multiple times before pointing it at officers.  Officers subsequently shot the armed individual.  Medical aid was immediately rendered at the scene.  He was transported to Hendrick Medical Center, where he was later pronounced deceased.  Notification of next of kin has been made.  The subject is identified as 61-year-old, Robert Acosta-Reyes.

The woman was located inside the home and was not injured.  No officers were injured.  Two officers will be placed on administrative leave.  The incident is being investigated concurrently with the Department of Public Safety - Texas Rangers.
