"Narco" has been Indicted for Murder

SAN ANGELO, TX – Mauricio “Narco” Portillo was indicted by a Tom Green County grand jury in May for murder, tampering with or fabricating physical evidence with the intention to impair the investigation.

On February 25th, 2021, at the Resort at Riverside, located at 3306 North Bryant Blvd. in San Angelo, a drug deal for marijuana went south.

Several people were inside the apartment when the shooting happened.

The incident occured in apartment #503. The victim, Rey Robles, had been shot in the head in the kitchen of the apartment.

When interviewing the individuals who were in the apartment when the incident occured, Sierra Camarillo claimed she shot Robles because he was striking Nathaniel Gonzalez in the head with a firearm. Camarillo stated that she picked up the gun after Robles dropped it and shot him to defend Gonzalez. She said she shot him more than once.

Camarillo then said that Robles had come to the residence to smoke marijuana then tried to rob them. She stated that Robles Racked his handgun and a live round came out onto the floor.

Detectives with the San Angelo Police Department obtained a warrant to search the property. Detectives located the live round on the floor near Camarillo’s bedroom several feet away from the kitchen.

Detectives said the two spent rounds were located in the living room and the kitchen area. This contradicted what Caramillo told police before.

The cartridge and the rounds were from a 9mm handgun. A Springfield semi-automatic 9mm handgun was found on the floor near the victim in the kitchen.

After investigators spoke with the other witnesses, law enforcement learned all of them, Grace Sanchez, Kortnee Leal, and Nathaniel Gonzalez, were all present during the shooting.

The three of them said the Camarillo and someone who went by “Narco” were going to sell marijuana. Two of the individuals stated that Narco’s name was Maricio Portillo.

After going through SAPD records, the investigator obtained a booking photograph of Portillo from the San Angelo Crime Analysis unit. With that and a video recording from the computerized records of the SAPD, the investigator was able to positively identify Maricio Portillo as “Narco”.

Sanchez, Leal, and Gonzalez said Robles arrived and wanted to weigh the marijuana before purchasing it. It was here that words were exchanged between Carmarillo, Portillo and Robles.

This escalated into Robles pulling a gun and began striking Gonzalez and pointing the gun at the other occupants in the apartment.

Then Portillo shot Robles twice.

Camarillo stated that Portillo shot Robles in the neck then stood over him and shot him again as he laid on the floor.

Gonzalez said the gun he was being pistol whipped by Robles was a Glock but one was never recovered at the scene.

Grace Sanchez said she saw Camarillo drop the Springfield 9mm handgun. Gonzalez also stated he knew Portillo had the 9mm.

After the scene was processed, the Springfield 9mm was the only gun recovered from the scene.

The investigator subsequently interviewed Sierra Camarillo. She stated that she was going to sell marijuana to Robles.

After Portillo shot Robles twice, Portillo dropped the murder weapon and picked up Robles’ gun.

Camarillo, Sanchez, and Leal stated that Maricio Portillo threw the victim’s handgun out the window of the east bedroom.

Maricio “Narco” Portillo was booked on 2/25/2021 and had a $500,000.00 bond. He is still currently an inmate at the TGCDF.
