ABILENE, TX – Dyess Air Force Base confirmed an airman us in custody after he allegedly shot a fellow airman.
According to the Abilene Police Department, officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of Pinot Drive early Friday morning for reports of an injured suspect.
When officers arrived at the scene they located a 21-year-old male with multiple gunshot wounds.
The victim was transported to a local hospital and his current condition is unknown at this time.
Police identified 21-year-old Airman first class Cartrell Wright as the suspect involved in the shooting. Wright was apprehended on base and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Wright's bond was set at $150,000.
According to Dyess, the suspect had been stationed in Abilene for approximately 16 months.
The base released the following statement.
"We are aware that a member of Dyess AFB is under investigation for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon by the Abilene Police Department. These are serious accusations, and not in the line with US Air Force or Team Dyess standards. That said, individuals are innocent until proven guilty in court. We will work with the appropriate parties, as needed, to provide any applicable information and to ensure the member is afforded due process according to the justice system. Additionally, we hope that the injured party makes a quick and full recovery."
