Abilene Man Sets Local Business on Fire

 

ABILENE, TX – A 29-year-old Abilene man has been arrested after he set a local business on fire.

According to the Abilene Police Department, the incident on Sunday after the suspect, identified as Pedro Mares, got into an argument with the business owner.

The owner said he was confronted by Mares after the suspect carried a rifle into the business.

After leaving the business, Mares got into his vehicle and drove behind the business.

When officers arrived at the scene, they saw smoke coming from the building. The Abilene Fire Department was able to extinguish the fire and Mares was arrested.

He was charged with a second-degree felony arson and second-degree felony aggravated assault. Additional charges for a felon in possession of a firearm are pending.

Mares' bond was set at $35,000.
