SAN ANGELO, TX -- Nearly two years after continuously sexually assaulting a minor, 68-year-old Miguel Angel Zapata Berumes has finally reached a plea deal.
According to court documents, Berumes repeatedly assaulted the minor who was younger than 14-years-old between October of 2019 and March of 2020. The abuse detailed in the criminal complaint alleges Berumes was extensive.
The child's mother reported the abuse after the child told her that Berumes had been inappropriately touching them for months. The suspect was arrested in March of last year.
Berumes was then charged with continuous sexual abuse of a child under the age of 14, a first-degree felony.
In exchange for a guilty plea to a lesser charge of aggravated sexual assault of a child, Berumes will be sentenced to 22 years in prison in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice division. The convicted sex offender will be recieve credit for serving 415 in the Tom Green County Jail.
