San Angelo Man Sentenced for Mass Shooting at Night Club

SAN ANGELO, TX – The San Angelo man who shot four people at the El Patron night club was sentenced to 12 years in prison on Thursday after the man pleaded guilty.

As previously reported, on Nov. 1, 2019 officers with the San Angelo Police Department were dispatched to Club El Patron for the report of a shooting. When they arrived on scene, the officers found four victims that had suffered gun shot wounds.

The victims were rushed to the hospital where luckily they all survived. Detectives went to the hospital and learned that one victim was shot in the left shoulder, two victims were shot in the right leg, and one victim was shot in the left leg.

The victims were interviewed and they all told officers that a Hispanic male in a blue shirt in a Chrysler 200 had fired multiple gunshots into a crowd in front of the club.

A witness to the shooting was able to follow the shooter to a residence where he then called police. Police arrived at the 700 block of Era St. and found Anthony Eugene Rodriguez, 20, inside. He was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

During the arrest, Rodriguez stated several times that he had messed up and was very excited.

After months of court appearances Rodriguez and the district attorney's office came up with a deal to avoid a trial.

Rodriguez pleaded guilty to all four counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. For each count he was sentenced to twelve years. Those twelve years will run concurrently. Rodriguez has 523 days of earned jail time credits. He will also have to pay more than $56,000 in restitution.

A mass shooting is defined as shooting that injured four or more people.
