Border Patrol K-9 Sniffs Out Huge Meth Stash

BROWNSVILLE, TX – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Brownsville and Matamoros International Bridge intercepted a load of alleged methamphetamine, hidden within a 2020 Mitsubishi.

“Our officers use their experience and a variety of law enforcement tools in carrying out the mission of protecting our borders and their vigilance led to this significant seizure,” said Port Director Tater Ortiz, Brownsville Port of Entry.

The seizure took place on Wednesday, Mar. 24, at the Brownsville and Matamoros International Bridge when a 24-year-old male United States citizen applied for entry into the United States driving a 2020 Mitsubishi. The vehicle was referred to CBP secondary for further examination after a primary inspection.  In secondary, with the aid of a non-intrusive imaging system (NII) and a canine unit, CBP officers discovered 25 packages hidden within the Mitsubishi.  CBP officers removed the packages which contained a total of 57.36 pounds of alleged methamphetamine.

The estimated street value of the methamphetamine from the seizure is $1,147,273.

CBP officers seized the narcotics along with the vehicle, arrested the driver and turned him over to the custody of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) special agents for further investigation.
