Clyde Man Missing for Two Weeks Found Deceased

CLYDE, TX – A Clyde family is mourning the loss of 81-year-old James West. West's body was found in a creek bed after he was missing for nearly two weeks.

On Saturday, authorities found West's car in a remote field. According to his family, there was evidence West had been sleeping in the vehicle after they found blankets and a reclined seat.

The car appeared to have been struck and the evidence suggested he may have tried to get the car moving again.

"[He} tried to get some traction, he had some tea posts dug out and a board somewhere and put it underneath one of the tires," said his daughter, Lori Garret.

According to Garret, her father used to spend hours everyday driving around Callahan County. The area where the car was found was the same place West used to work with his father when he was a young man.

In a Facebook post, Garret confirmed her father was located by the Clyde Police Department.

"It is with sadness, but relief, that we have some closure. They found my dad, James West, this afternoon. According to PD, it appears that he had walked about 2.5 miles, laid down by a creek bed, and died," Garret wrote. "People, this is exactly how he wanted to go - Out where he explored as a kid, remembering all the adventures he had. This knowledge lets me smiles through the tears. Thank you to everyone who has helped in every way possible."

I’m concerned about the “struck” part. Animal or vehicle? Because if it’s an incident with a vehicle, then the other fled. And not a so happy story.
