Disturbed Man Charged With Murder After Using Bow and Arrow

 

ALPINE, TX - An Alpine man is facing a murder charge after he allegedly killed a 64-year-old man over the weekend.

According to the Brewster County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to the 400 block of East Harriet Avenue for reports of a homicide.

When officers arrived at the scene they located the victim -- Jeffrey Williams.

The person who called 9-1-1 told officers the suspect, identified as Travis Rutherford, was his neighbor. Rutherford allegedly told the neighbor "that his children were buried underneath the home and that he may have killed his roommate”.

After Rutherford was arrested he admitted to police that he shot the victim with arrows and then struck him with the bow. In a subsequent interview, Rutherford also admitted to hitting Willaims with a metal bat.

 Rutherford was charged with first-degree murder and his bond was set at $100,000.
