Officer Charged with Killing George Floyd Will Stand Trial Alone

MINNEAPOLIS,MN – Judge Peter Cahill has cited space concerns due to COVID-19 and has ordered Derek Chauvin be tried separate from the other former officers in the George Floyd case.

Chauvin is the officer who knelt on Mr. Floyd’s neck while he had him in handcuffs for several minutes. Cahill brought up the limitations with all four men and counsel for all four men would be “impossible to comply with COVID-19 physical restrictions”.

Chief Judge Toddrick Barnett stated the courtroom could handle three defendants.

Second-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter charges were brought against Chauvin while the three other former officers; Lane, Tuo, and Kueng, have aiding and abetting murder and aiding and abetting manslaughter charges each against them.

Chauvin is set to appear in court on March 8th.
