San Angelo Teens Arrested After Shooting at Motel 6

 

SAN ANGELO, TX – Two San Angelo teens were arrested on November 12, 2020 following a shooting  at the Motel 6 off of N Bryant Blvd just three days prior. 

On November 9, 2020, at approximately 2:31 a.m San Angelo Police Officers and Tom Green County Sheriff's Deputies responded to the Motel 6 following the report of a shooting. When responding units arrived on scene they spoke with the victim, identified as Armando Meza, who admitted to shooting at the defendant after a confrontation broke out in room 211.

Following an initial investigation surveillance footage was pulled from the hotel where the victim was able to positively identify the defendant from the incident as 19-year-old Thomas Gonzales.

Upon reviewing the surveillance footage investigators observed Gonzales hiding outside of hotel room #211 with a handgun. Sometime later the door to the hotel room was opened for a third-party, and Gonzales was seen forcing his way into the room as he pointed a firearm at Meza.

When questioned Meza advised that when Gonzales began pointing the firearm at him he attempted to defend himself by retrieving a firearm in the room and firing at Gonzales who then fled the scene on foot prior to police arrival.

Before a search warrant was conducted detectives interviewed Meza who was read his Miranda rights, to which he waived and agreed speak to investigators. During the course of the investigation detectives executed their search warrant on room #211 and recovered several belongings of Meza's including a blue back pack. 

A search of the backpack revealed several articles of men's clothing, several men's hygiene products, 12.4 grams of suspected methamphetamine with packaging, 1.7 grams of suspected heroin, several small clear zip lock baggies, and a black digital scale. Investigators at the scene field tested the suspected methamphetamine and heroin, which yielded positive reactions for both substances.

Following their investigation the recovered methamphetamine was given an estimated street value of approximately $992.00. 

On Nov. 12, the defendant, Thomas Gonzales, was arrested by authorities with the San Angelo Police Department along with the help of the Tom Green County Sheriff's Office at 1:26 a.m, where he was charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm. His bond has been set at $60,000.00. 

On Nov. 12, the victim, Armando Meza was arrested by authorities with the San Angelo Police Department at 1:28 p.m, where he was charged with MAN DEL CS PG 1 >=4G<200G, POSS CS PG 1 >=1G<4G, and POSS CS PG 3 < 28G. His bond has been set at $151,000.00.
