Suspect Charged with Murder Following Shooting of Police Sergeant

HOUSTON, TX – The Houston Police Department has made an arrest on the suspected killer of HPD Sergeant Sean Rios.

According to the Houston Police Department, on Nov. 9, officers with the HPD and paramedics were dispatched to the Taj Inn & Suites for the report of a shooting victim. When they arrived they found HPD Sgt. Sean Rios dead in the lobby.

Manager of the hotel said he saw a man come in with obvious gunshot wounds. He said the man was dressed in regular street close and did not realize it was an officer. Sgt. Rios died in the lobby before paramedics arrived on scene.

The HPD then released a statement later asking for the public's help in finding the shooter.

Police claimed it was a hispanic man in his mid to late 20s with a lot of tattoos. He was driving a silver Mercedes Benz. Police have also stated that another man driving a black truck had pulled up and assisted the man during the gun fight.

It is unclear at this time why the shooting occurred but HPD has given out information stating Rios was on his way to work at the airport.

On Nov. 11, officers captured one of the suspects. He was identified as 24-year-old Robert Soliz.
