Border Patrol Agents Execute Five Drug Busts In Three Days

EDINBURG, TX -- Border Patrol agents in the Rio Grande Valley had a busy week after making multiple drug busts. The five busts added up to more than $1.9 million in drugs.

Last Saturday, agents working at the Javier Vega Jr. Checkpoint seized 20 pounds of methamphetamine. The narcotics were valued at $775,000.

On Sunday, agents working near Escobares saw a dark-colored Chevrolet pickup travel to the banks of the Rio Grande.

When the truck arrived at its destination, multiple suspects were observed loading bundles of drugs into the pickup.

After agents converged on the scene the pickup attempted to drive away but was forced to drive back to the river as agents approached.

The driver of the pickup swam to Mexico and agents discovered almost 300 pounds of marijuana with a street value of $238,000.

On Tuesday afternoon, McAllen agents working in Havana located fresh shoe prints on the river road near the Rio Grande.

With a K-9 team in tow, border patrol agents followed the tracks into the brush. They located a group of smugglers that ran back to Mexico. A search of the area led to the discovery of 230 pounds of marijuana worth $184,000.

Later that evening Fort Brown agents in Brownsville were dispatched to a report of a  suspected drug smuggling attempt.

With the assistance of a K-9 unit,  the agents found 98 pounds of marijuana worth more than $78,000. The agents were unable to locate the smugglers.

Early Wednesday morning, agents responded to an incident that occurred Tuesday night near La Casita. Agents then located an abandoned backpack and several bundles of fentanyl near the road in the high grass.

With the help of a K-9 unit, the agents seized nearly 20 pounds of fentanyl valued at $635,000.
