15-Year-Old Girl Dies After Assault

MIDLAND, TX -- As the Midland Police Department continues investigating the alleged rape and subsequent death of a 15-year-old girl, a GoFundMe has been created to help her family as they deal with their loss.

According to the Midland Police Department, emergency services responded to the teen's house on October 20. Authorities have not confirmed any additional details.

“To the extent that there may be a criminal investigation involving sexual assault of a child, the City is unable to comment or confirm any information.” a City of Midland Spokesperson told local media.

According to her family, they found Jasmine in the front yard beaten with major injuries.

Jasmine was transported to a Dallas hospital to be treated for a major head injury. She ultimately succumbed to a heart attack after her family chose to take her off life support.

In addition to the GoFundMe, the Midland High School Softball Team is also raising money to help Jasmine’s family.

Jasmine was part of the Lady Dawgs Softball team. During Thursday's game, the team carried her #12 jersey around the bases.

"As many of you are aware, a member of the Midland High softball team and her family have experienced a devastating life event. In order to help defer any expenses related to this event, the MHS Softball Booster Club is creating a donation account to assist our athlete and her family," states the Facebook post. "There will be two accounts: a medical account to defer any hospital costs and a scholarship account that will honor the hard work and dedication Jasmine has given to the program."

"If you would like to provide a monetary donation for either account, you may reach out to any of the booster club board members listed below or through the message function on Facebook."
