SAN ANGELO, TX – On Sunday, Oct. 18, a DPS trooper was working routine traffic patrol on US 277 just north of San Angelo when she conducted a traffic stop on a white 2011 Toyota Tundra who had disregarded a posted no passing zone.
When the trooper made contact with the vehicle she asked the driver for consent to conduct a search of the vehicle. The driver approved giving the trooper permission search the vehicle.
While conducting a search of the backseat the trooper found an undetermined amount of marijuana hidden in the vehicle's air vent, as well as a bag containing a clear crystal-like substance.
Between the driver's seat and middle console the trooper recovered a rolled up sock that also contained a clear crystal-like substance.
All evidence and substances recovered from the vehicle were found to belong to a backseat passenger, identified as Carlos Pena, who was arrested without incident.
