Officer Recovers 205 Grams of Meth in Traffic Stop

BROWNWOOD, TX – On Sunday evening a minor traffic accident in a Brownwood parking lot led to the seizure of 205 grams of methamphetamine, a small amount of marijuana, and the arrest of the driver, according to the Brownwood Police Department.

On Sunday, Sept. 6, at approximately 11:15 p.m. officer Colby Adams with the Brownwood Police Department was monitoring traffic in the Commerce Square parking lot (Area of 500 block of West Commerce) when he overheard a minor traffic accident. It was later confirmed that a sedan struck a light pole in the parking lot and quickly drove away.

Adams was eventually able to locate the vehicle shortly after it left the parking lot and initiated a traffic stop in the 300 block of East Commerce.

As Adams spoke with the driver, an odor of marijuana was reported to be coming from inside the vehicle, based on this information, the officer initiated a search on the vehicle.

The driver was identified as 32-year-old Stetson Lee Spearman of Brownwood.

In addition to a small amount of marijuana being found, approximately seven clear baggies containing a crystal-like substance were recovered, which was believed to be methamphetamine, in a bag found sitting in the passenger seat.

Spearman was arrested at the scene and charged for the manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance where he was held on $50,000.00 in bond.

At the police station, the crystal-like substance was weighed out by investigators and registered to an amount just over 200 grams classifying this offense as a first degree felony.

BPD Assistant Police Chief James Fuller specified via text message that the crystal-like substance officially weighed out to 205 grams.

On Tuesday morning Stetson remained in the Brown County Jail in lieu of aforementioned $50,000 in bond.
