LEVELLAND, TX – The Levelland Police Department arrested a man after he allegedly kidnapped a child from a birthday party and attempted to sexually assault her.
According to the Levelland Police Department, on August 23, officers stopped to assist a motorist who had a broken down on East Ellis just blocks away from the Levelland Middle School and the Levelland Academic Beginner Center.
When officers stopped to speak with the stranded motorists, they discovered that a young girl in the passenger seat without a seat belt on. The officers identified the man as 26-year-old Damien Gonzales. Gonzales told officers that his car broke down and could not get ahold of anyone for a ride.
Officers then asked about the girl in the passenger seat and this is when Gonzales became aggressive. Gonzales was asked a number of questions about the girls identity and where her parents were but he failed to answer any questions about her.
Dispatch then informed officers of a report of a nine year old girl who was kidnaped at a birthday party within Hockley County. The parents of the child were quickly called in and the girl was identified as their daughter.
After getting the girl out of Gonzales' possession the car was searched and a baggie of methamphetamine was found.
Gonzales was then arrested and charged with Aggravated Kidnapping, Indecency with a child and Abandoning or Endangering a child. He is being held in the Hockley County Jail on a $65,000 bond.
