Witness: Teen Killed After Warning Shots Fired At Party

ABILENE, TX — New details have surfaced regarding the shooting that led to the death of 19-year-old Megan Kirkland at a party early Sunday morning.

According to KTXS, a witness told local media that a fight at the party led to the gunfire that killed Megan. According to the witness nearly 70 people were present at the party.

The witness, who talked to media on the condition of anonymity, claims that someone at the party fired warning shots in an attempt to stop the fight.

"A guy shot up in the air three times," said the witness.

The witness then saw a male from the opposite direction pull out a gun and began shooting.

"He shot two times and people started to really panic and pay attention and the third shot he caught Megan," said the witness.

A graduate of Wylie High School, Megan was remembered as a “very bright and capable student."

"She was a high school senior and also held down a job. She wasn't afraid to get in there and go after it," said Tommy Vaughn, Assistant Superintendent at Wylie ISD.

Megan was getting ready to begin the fall semester at Cisco College next week.
