Body of Missing Teen Found in the Guadalupe River

SAN MARCOS, TX – The body of 18-year-old swimmer Adrian Mares has been recovered from the Guadalupe River by the South Hays Fire Department.

According to My San Antonio, the dive team recovered Mares body at 10:30 a.m. downstream from where he was last seen on Wednesday. Mares was described as being short with a stocky build and wearing gray swim trunks.

Mares was swimming int the river south of FM 1117 when he disappeared after swimming downstream from a bridge.

Aircraft were brought in to search for the 18-year-old, but by midnight he was still missing. The sheriff’s office then announced they would continue the search once the sun came back up as deputies continued patrolling the area through the night without success.

"The current plus all the flood debris that builds up that you can't see that's at the bottom of the river ... it causes a lot of currents and undertows and makes it really, really dangerous once you get into deeper water," said an official with the Guadalupe County Sheriff's Office.
