Border Patrol Seizes Over 3,000 lbs of the Devil's Lettuce

 

LAREDO, TX – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Office of Field Operations (OFO) officers seized over $8.7 million of narcotics in two separate operations.

CBP confirmed that both incidents occurred at the World Trade Bridge. One bust occurred on Friday, March 20 when a 2000 Freightliner Tractor Trailer hauling a shipment of plastic containers was sent to secondary examination.

Canine and non-intrusive imaging inspection revealed 137 packages that contained 3,272 pounds of what appeared to be marijuana.

The second bust occurred on Thursday, March 19 when a 2002 Freightliner tractor-trailer was also referred for a secondary examination. Similar inspection procedures were employed, and officers discovered 159 packages containing 581 pounds of alleged methamphetamine

The combined street value of drugs is estimated to be $8,790,180.

The cases were turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) special agents for further investigation.
