Tom Green County Jail Screening for Coronavirus

 

SAN ANGELO, TX – The Tom Green County Sheriff's Office notified the public Friday that they will begin screening for Coronavirus. 

According to TGCSO, on Mar. 20, the Tom Green County Sheriff's Office and Jail is committed to partnering with the community to stop the spread of  the Coronavirus and protecting the health of our staff and inmates. To that end, the jail has implemented the following protocol:

ALL persons; to include staff, arresting officers and arrestees, entering the faculty will be screened utilizing the screening questionnaire suggested by the Center for Disease Control. In addition every person will be subject to  having their temperature taken prior to entry. 

Anyone exhibiting symptoms or with a fever of 100.4 or above will be denied access. Officers arc stationed at both entrances of the facility to ensure everyone is screened. 

Individuals arrested will be screened using the same procedures as listed above. ln the event an arrested individual exhibits symptoms or has a temperature of  100.4 or above, they will be given a surgical mask and referred to the Tom Green County Jail Medical Department. If after screening the Medical Department deems it necessary, the individual will be transported to the hospital for further testing.

If an individual already incarcerated begins to exhibit symptom's related to the Coronavirus, the same protocol will be followed. Upon clearance from the hospital, the individual will be isolated until the symptoms subside and the individual is cleared by medical staff to return to population.

Entry has been limited to only essential personnel necessary for the safe and secure operation of the facility.

Upon the recommendation of the Texas Commission on Jail Standards. all visitation from the lobby of the facility has bem suspended. ln addition we have suspended 37 TEX. Admin Code §287.1 Education and Rehabilitation Plan upon TCJS recommendation, 
We recognize the importance of contact with family and friends and the positive impact educational and rehabilitative programs have on our incarcerated individuals, however the safety of our staff and inmates is paramount.

monitor the status oft.he pandemic and will follow all recommendations of the Texas Commission on Jail Standards. the Centers if Disease Control and the Office of the Governor of Texas.
