Police: Suspect Kidnaps Clerk After Robbing Convenience Store

BROWNWOOD, TX – Authorities arrested 59-year-old Joseph Hardman Monday after he robbed a convenience store and kidnapped one of the female clerks.

According to KTXS, at approximately 11:15 p.m. on March 2, police responded to the 7-Eleven located on Coggin Ave for a robbery. A clerk at the scene told police that Hardman came into the store, walked behind the counter, and grabbed a female clerk from behind stating “he had a gun on her.”

The suspect then demanded money and cigarettes from the male clerk and left the store with the female clerk. The victim attempted to convince her captor that he had what he wanted, but he refused to let her go.

According to police, Hardman and his victim made it to an open field where he forced her on the ground and demanded oral sex.

When police were searching the area, they noticed someone screaming and saw a woman running towards them from an open lot on Ave E.

The victim told police that when she saw police searching, she was able to break free and run towards safety.

Hardman is charged with aggravated robbery, aggravated kidnapping, evading detention and failure to ID fugitive. He is currently in the Brown County Jail. His bond has been set at $200,000.
