Former Police Officers Sue Department for Racial Discrimination
MIDLAND, TX – The Midland Police Department is facing a discrimination and harassment lawsuit after two former employees filed a suit against the city, the police department, and officials within MPD.
According to CBS7, the plaintiffs, Demetrius Lee and Robb Wilson claim the police department fosters a culture of discrimination and harassment toward African-American workers.
In 2018, Lee was charged with abuse of official capacity - for running a driver's license check. In the lawsuit, Lee alleges the charge was retaliation for speaking out about racism inside the department.
Wilson, who was employed as a parking enforcement officer, claims he wasn’t able to get a position because of his race.
Midland Police Chief Seth Herman and former Lt. Kyle Sullivan are listed as defendants on the lawsuit.
