SAN ANGELO, TX – A Tom Green County grand jury has indicted a man for an assault involving a machete and a hatchet.
According to court reports, on November 16, at around 3:00 a.m. officers with the San Angelo Police Department were dispatched to the 1200 block of Millspaugh for the report of an assault in progress.
When the officers arrived at the home the man had barricaded himself inside of the home. The victim was able to escape and explained to police what occurred.
He claimed that while he was asleep, Eric Talton, 25, punched him in the face multiple times. Talton then allegedly grabbed a hatchet and a machete and began swinging them at the victim.
During the assault the victim's hand was cut.
Later that day at around 1:00 p.m. the officers received another call at the same location regarding a fight.
When the officers arrived the second time they met with the same victim and learned that that he had been assaulted again. This time it was in the front yard of the residence.
The victim stated that he attempted to get into the house when Talton came outside swinging a machete. The affidavit states that during the assault Talton was heard yelling "I'll chop your ass up."
During this assault the victim was able to get a bat to defend himself but the man barricaded himself inside once again.
The following day Justice of the Peace J.P McGuire issued a warrant for the arrest of Talton for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon to a family or house member.
Eric Talton was arrested on November 17 and was booked into the Tom Green County Jail. He was released February 4 after a $55,000 bond was posted.
Talton was indicted on this charge during the January Indictments. His initial pretrial begins on March 3 at 2:00 p.m.
