UPDATE: Manhunt Over for Thirsty Traveler

 

SWEETWATER, TX  – Deputies with the Nolan County Sheriff's Office are actively searching for a wanted fugitive who is hiding in the woods. 

According to KTXS, on January 2, the NCSO notified the public that they are searching for 33-year-old Edward Van Weldy.

Weldy is wanted for a parole violation. 

The deputies first spotted Weldy after they received a call about a suspicious person at the who was at a rest stop on I-20 near mile marker 257. 

As deputies were approaching, Weldy decided to run and took off into a concentrated wooded area south of I-20. 

Weldy is 6', 190 lbs., with brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing dark clothing. If you have any information on his whereabouts contact the NCSO or local law enforcement. 

UPDATE 1:43 p.m. 

The man hunt has officially ended and Weldy is in custody. 

The Texas Department of Criminal Justice and the Texas Game Wardens assisted the NCSO on the hunt. 

Further investigation has revealed that Weldy had approached a home asking to but a bottle of water from them. The home owners then drove the man to the rest stop and called 911.
