Two Dead Following Nightclub Shooting on First Day of the Decade

 

LUBBOCK, TX – Two people, including one teenager, was killed Wednesday night following a shooting at a nightclub. 

According to KCBD and the Lubbock Police Department, on January 1, officers with the LPD responded to a shots fired call at the Level Nightclub located in the heart of Buddy Holly Ave. 

Officers say that they arrived to the 1900 block at around 2:00 a.m. This is where they found the first gunshot victim lying in front of the club with an apparent gunshot wound. They assisted the man and then went inside to find another victim who has suffered a gunshot wound. 

Both victims were taken to the University Medical Center where they both died due to their injuries. They have been identified as 17-year-old Garyontae Shephard and 24-year-old Dedrick Traylor.

After further investigation, Police determined that Traylor and the suspect had gotten into a fight inside of the club. During the altercation, the suspect pulled out a gun and shot Traylor. 

Witnesses on scene say Shephard was seen running from the scene when he was shot.

No description has been given of the shooter and officers with the Lubbock Police Department have not named or located the individual.
