Lakeview Convenience Store Stabbing Suspect Indicted

SAN ANGELO, TX – The man who allegedly stabbed an old prison foe in the Stripes on Armstrong St was indicted in December.

As previousily reported, on October 2, officers with the San Angelo Police Department were dispatched to the Stripes on the 800 block of 19th street for the report of a stabbing. Here is the original story: UPDATE: Police Hunting Lake View Stabbing Suspect.

When officers arrived they found a man who was stabbed inside of his vehicle and immediately deployed a Department issued C-A-T tourniquet to control the victim’s bleeding until SAFD Medics arrived.

The victim, a 33-year-old San Angeloan, was rushed to the Shannon Medical Center and was treated for multiple stab wounds.

After being treated, the victim told police that he knew the man who stabbed him. He said the he and Manuel Penner, 30, knew each other from the same prison in the Texas Department of Corrections.

The victim knew that the two had an issue that had to be resolved but did not intentionally meet up with Penner that night.

When the victim saw Penner he "verbally greeted him." This is when Penner pulled a knife, chased him to his car, and stabbed the victim multiple times through the open window.

To prove the identity as Penner, the victim called in his cousin who also knows him. His cousin told police that he also knew Penner because Penner was dating his ex-girlfriend.

After checking the security footage and confirming the allegations, Penner was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

He was booked into the Tom Green County Jail on October 2 and was released the following day on a $35,000 surety bond.

Penner has a post indictment reporting hearing on January 8 at 8:30 a.m.
