Border Agents Tightening Up Checkpoints for Holiday Travelers

SAN ANGELO, TX -- U.S. Border Patrol agents are advising drivers to prepare for possible wait times and have proper documentation for holiday travel.

"Due to holidays, there might be an extensive wait due to the amount of traffic coming through," Public Affairs Border Patrol Agent, Hermann Rivera explained.

According to the US Border Patrol, checkpoint agents will not allow adults or children to pass without proper identification.

"People traveling with family members who are not of this country, to make sure they bring their visas and their valid I-94 documents," he said.

Rivera explained if passengers do not have proper documents, they will have to return to the nearest port of entry and apply for documentation.

Agents say cracking down on crime will be easier thanks to the new state of the art facility and technology at the Falfurrias checkpoint on U.S. Highway 281.

A popular highway connecting the Valley to San Antonio and north Texas.

"We do see an increase, smugglers will try to utilize that opportunity right there and then in order to bring people or narcotics as well," he stated.
