MERKEL, TX – Merkel City Councilman Mike McLeod resigned on Wednesday after being accused of allegedly groping a woman. The victim alleges McLeod grabbed her breasts and the owner of the establishment where the incident occurred claimed she saw McLeod slap the victim’s butt.
According to KTXS, McLeod submitted his resignation two days after the last council meeting. Texas election code dictates the resignation does not become official until its "accepted by the appropriate authority" or on the eighth day after it is received.
If the city council does not call a special meeting, then the resignation will become official on November 21st.
No other victims have come forward at this time, but the Merkel Police Chief Phillip Conklin states that victims are encouraged to call Merkel PD at 325-674-1300.
