Wanted Couple from Dallas Captured by SAPD During Theft by Check Scheme

SAN ANGELO, TX -- The San Angelo Police Department caught a wanted thief and a wanted drug dealer Saturday while they were driving down the Houston Harte Expressway in a stolen U-haul.

According to the affidavit singed by Justice of the Peace Susan Werner, on October 26, officers were dispatched to Family Power Sports for the report of suspicious activity where it was discovered that a wanted subject arrived at the store and attempted to purchase a 4-wheeler with a hot check.

After arriving officers found two suspects identified as Michael Poth, 47, and Lolita Penigar, 44, and found that they had warrants out the Metroplex Area.

After speaking with the two, officers discovered that they had gotten a stolen Uhaul by a source known as "Top Dog" two days prior.

Penigar admitted at one point that they stole the vehicle and drove through Dallas, Taylor and then finally into Tom Green County committing multiple theft by checks.

Officers then spoke with Uhaul who confirmed the two did not have permission to be driving the truck.

Poth was wanted for theft of a property out of Fort Worth. Penigar was wanted for manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance. They are both now facing charges for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle out of Tom Green County.

They are both currently in the Tom Green County Jail.
