Border Patrol Agent Attacked By Smugglers

TERRELL COUNTY, TX – A Sanderson Border Patrol agent was assaulted after a traffic stop 20 miles north of Dryden early Wednesday morning.

According to KTXS, the vehicle had about 10 people in it, prompting Terrell County Sheriff’s Office to believe it may have been a smuggling attempt. The exact nature of the attack on the agent is unknown at the time, but the Sheriff’s office did disclose that the officer fired his weapon twice, striking one of the suspects both times.

The rest of the occupants fled the scene on foot, prompting officials to urge drivers to use caution and not pick up anyone walking in the area.

The Border Patrol Agent was taken to the hospital, treated, and released. No information is available regarding the condition of the suspect that was shot.
