Brady Police Department Responds to BISD's "Recent Threat of Violence"

BRADY, TX -- The Brady Police Department responded to the threats on Texas schools yesterday.

The following is the release from the Chief of Police Steve Thomas:

In order to help dispel/prevent any rumors about today’s events on our school campuses…

At approximately 9:00 this morning the Brady Police Department received information concerning a generic and unconfirmed security threat where a school shooting was to take place “somewhere in Texas” during the school day.

While in consultation with the interim Superintendent of Schools and the principals at each campus, Brady officers assumed visible positions at each location in order to monitor activity and be prepared should any possible threat be identified. Officers were also detailed inside each campus during their respective lunch periods. Upon completion, officers continued to remain on/near each campus for the remainder of the day.

While no Brady campus was put on “lockdown”, each principal did alter how their students could more safely move about their buildings, especially pertaining to students needing to move outside to change classes. This movement was not only restricted, but also monitored by both staff and law enforcement when necessary.

Please rest assured that both the Brady Independent School District and the Brady Police Department place the utmost importance on our children’s safety, that being either on or away from our campuses. Based on the information (and how it was received), it was determined that no “alert” was necessary at that time and that any posting by the City or the School District about this unsubstantiated information could potentially cause unwarranted panic.

It is important to us that you know that the BISD and the Brady Police Department took this situation very seriously and that all those involved took the necessary precautions to best safeguard everyone on those campuses.
