Dad Makes Plea Deal for Possession of 54 lbs of the Devil's Lettuce Across from a San Angelo Elementary School

SAN ANGELO, TX – A San Angelo father is set to take a plea deal in the case of a family charged with being in possession of 54 lbs of marijuana in a residence across the street from a San Angelo elementary school.

The father, mother and son previously had presented a united defense insisting they were going to take their case to a jury trial.

According to court documents, ZZYZX Anglin Sr. has signed a status report which includes a plea bargain which will place him on deferred adjudication for five years.  He will also have to pay a $5,000 fine.

As we reported earlier, ZZYZX Anglin Jr. was charged with possession of 54 lbs of marijuana in the same case and took a plea bargain placing him on deferred adjudication for ten years.  He was also ordered to pay a $2,500 fine and $180 in restitution.

ZZYZX Anglin Jr., Shelda Anglin, and ZZYZX Benjamin Anglin Sr. were arrested and booked into the Tom Green County Jail without bond in May 2018.  They resided in a home in the 3400 block of School House Dr. across from Lamar Elementary School in southwest San Angelo.

They were charged with possession of greater than 50 lbs but less than 2,000 lbs of marijuana in may 2018.

The three were detained during the execution of a search warrant, which yielded the discovery and seizure of approximately fifty-four (54) pounds of hydroponic marijuana, approximately $7,500 in US Currency, and packaging consistent with narcotics distribution in the house.  Fifty-four pounds of hydroponic marijuana has a street value of approximately $360,000 in US currency.

The trio was arrested for Felony 2 Possession of marijuana and transported to the Tom Green County Jail.

The second degree felony is punishable by two to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.

The Department’s Patrol Division, K-9 Unit, Anti-crime Unit, and Center for Tactical Medicine assisted with the operation.

While the father and son have agreed to plea deals, Mrs. Anglin has not.

According to court records, Shelda Anglin has a jury trial set for Oct. 21, 2019.

If the Anglins complete the conditions of their deferred adjudication, the felony charges could be dismissed by the court.

Stop making "plea deals" for this! It is obvious these folks are drug distributors. They don't care about laws. They don't mind destroying lives. They don't care if they are across the street from an elementary school. They don't care. Send them a message. San Angelo is tired of this. Let them spend a lot of time in jail so they can no longer do what they do. They are not part of the solution to our society, but part of the problem.

Stop making plea deals! Just let them go! It's only marijuana. Instead, focus on the drugs that really ruin lives, like alcohol. Don't make a plea deal for the detective who just got a DWI. Alcohol puts people people's lives are at stake. Let the marijuana cases, where only Doritos are at stake, go!
