School Resource Officer Arrested After Allegations of Having Salacious Relations with a Student

ODESSA, TX -- The Odessa Police Department arrested the former resource officer of an Ector County ISD campus after parents of a student came forward about their child being sexually assaulted.

According to CBS7, on September 14, the OPD received a call from the parents of a daughter who had been allegedly sexually assaulted by 43-year-old Officer David Franco.

The parents told officers that they had found text messages on their child's phone that had sexual nature between their child and a family friend, the school resource officer, Franco.

They continued by telling police that they called Franco and he admitted to assaulting their child.

Officer then spoke to the victim and she told them that Franco assaulted her on the last day of summer school.

The following is a statement released to CBS 7 about the incident:

"We are aware of the charge against one of our police officers and are cooperating with the Odessa Police Department as it conducts the investigation. We learned of the allegation over the weekend, and the officer was immediately suspended. He has now been terminated.

We will not tolerate this kind of behavior. We set very clear expectations for all of our staff members and expect all will build professional relationships for teaching, encouraging and inspiring kids. It is unacceptable for it to cross the line away from that professional standard. Parents trust us with their most valuable possessions, their children, and our goal will always be to maintain that trust by keeping them safe.

We have incredible people in ECISD. This situation denigrates the hard work being done by thousands of others every day. We do not want to forget their work. At the same time, we want to assure our community we will help the police and the family in any way we can."

Franco was arrested and charged with sexual assault of a child. He is currently in the Ector County Jail.
