2 Guards Stabbed Outside Popular Bar as the Party Never Ends

SAN ANGELO, TX – Two club bouncers were stabbed Wednesday night after kicking out an unruly group of patrons at the Concho Pearl Ice House, 1605 S. Chadbourne St.

According to San Angelo police, a fight broke out inside the bar and the bar’s private security guards were successful in kicking those fighting out of the building. However, once outside and still on Concho Pearl property in the parking lot north of the main entrance, the same patrons began fighting again.

As two Concho Pearl security guards attempted to break up the second fight, one man pulled a knife. One security guard was stabbed in his side and second was stabbed on the right side of his head, just above the ear. The man wielding the knife fled on foot.

As Concho Pearl staff was performing first aid on their injured security guards, two ambulances rushed to the scene along with at least seven San Angelo police units. The call about the injured security guards occurred at 12:12 a.m. Thursday morning.

Both stabbing victims are expected to live, however the guard stabbed in the side was in the worst condition of the two, according to radio calls from the ambulances.

The commotion in the parking lot did not seem to affect the revelers inside the bar. The music was still playing and not many patrons knew what had happened just outside.

Jared Thomason, promoter and a manager at the Concho Pearl, said they hire extra security for Wednesday nights. Patron safety is a paramount concern, he said. He also expressed concern about the condition of the two security guards as both were rushed to Shannon Medical Center.

While Police were still investigating the scene by 2 a.m. as patrons were leaving. A second fight broke out right in front of police. We saw at least one man put into handcuffs.

As the investigation was only in its early stages, police said the man who stabbed the security guards was not in custody. Several witnesses told us they knew exactly who it was. One said they saw him walking down the street near there.

The headline was inspired by Robert Earl Keen.

Update 12:08 p.m.: Thursday morning, San Angelo police named the suspect and are actively searching for him on a warrant for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. More here.
