Officer Indicted After Son Injures Himself with Father's Service Pistol

BROWNWOOD, TX -- An officer was indicted this month after his 3-year-old son shot himself with his father's service pistol.

According to the Brownwood Bulletin, on September 3, Robert Lehman an officer with the Brownwood Police Department turned himself in after being indicted for making a firearm accessible to a child.

This came after an incident that occurred on May 26. On this day, a number of first responders arrived at Lehman's home after he found his son incapacitated with gunshot wound to a head. They took him to Brownwood Regional Medical Center.

Deputies say that when they arrived they found Lehman's service pistol beside the boy.

The report given to the Texas Rangers stated that Lehman “was very shaken and upset over the incident and continued to ask how the child was."

Lehman was placed on un-paid leave but his child's health is improving.

Lehman was booked into the Brown County Jail and was released the same day on a $2,500 bond.
