Man on Meth Threatens Woman with Knife in Attempt to Flee from Police

SAN ANGELO, TX -- A man was arrested on Saturday after attempting to hurt a woman with a crowbar and a bowie knife while being on methamphetamine.

According to court documents, on August 24, the San Angelo Police Department were dispatched to the 200 block of West 9th for the report of a man attempting to gain illegal entry to one of the apartments in the building.

When they arrived they found a man who was apparently on drugs and was acting hostile. They detained the man and identified him as 29-year-old Carl Gentry.

The officers then talked to the victim and multiple witnesses to discover what went down that evening.

The victim told police that it had started that morning when Gentry had assaulted her. He told her that if she told police that he would harm her.

Out of fear the woman did not contact police that morning but when Gentry came back, the assaults became more violent.

Police say that when Gentry returned, he went to the woman's apartment and began screaming at her through the door. He then kicked in the door and made threats to her about calling the police. "In the second disturbance on the same day, Gentry reportedly made additional threats of serious bodily injury to victim if police were contacted before leaving again." stated the affidavit.

The turning point of Gentry's constant attempt to escape before police arrived happened when he went to his truck to leave and it would not start.

This is when Gentry lost it. Witness on scene told police that this is when Gentry got on top of the victim's car with a bowie knife and a crowbar. While on top of the woman's car, Gentry demanded that she give him the keys to her car so he could leave.

She then ran from the victim down the hallway and police arrived.

Police arrested Gentry and charged him with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. They also found meth and marijuana on him and charged him with possession of both.

He is currently in the Tom Green County Jail and his bond is set at $43,500.
