Man Extradited from Maine for Lewd Acts with a Minor for Years

BROWNWOOD, TX -- A man was extradited from Maine on Tuesday for allegedly sexually abusing a girl.

According to the Brownwood Bulletin, in 2018 the Texas Rangers began investigating 45-year-old James Helms after a now-teenage girl told authorities that he had been sexually abusing her for years.

This is when Helms fled to Maine where he worked as a handy man. He lived there for a little over a year and then in April a news station in Maine reported that Maine troopers arrested Helms in connection to Texas sex crimes.

On July 16 , a Brown County Sheriff’s deputy brought Helms from Maine to Brown County.

Helms is currently if the Brown County Jail for continuous sexual abuse of young child or children, sexual assault, prohibited sexual conduct and possession or promotion of child pornography.
