Mexican Convicted for Attempted Murder in McCulloch County Arrested After Illegally Entering USA

DEL RIO, TX – U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Del Rio Station apprehended a Mexican national with a previous conviction for attempted murder.

On June 23, Border Patrol agents arrested a Mexican national shortly after he made an illegal entry into the United States by crossing the Rio Grande River. During processing, records checks revealed an extensive criminal history, including a conviction for attempted murder in McCulloch County in 1995. He was most recently deported from the United States in 2011.

He faces a charge of 8 USC § 1326 – Reentry After Deportation, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.

“Our agents are tasked with upholding the integrity of our borders and the security of our communities,” said Del Rio Sector Chief Patrol Agent Raul L. Ortiz. “Thanks to their perseverance, another convicted criminal has been denied the opportunity to endanger our communities.”

All individuals arrested by the U.S. Border Patrol undergo criminal history checks using biometrics to ensure those with criminal history or gang affiliation are positively identified.
