Alleged Arsonist of the Orient St. Explosion Indicted

 

SAN ANGELO, TX – The man that allegedly blew up the barrio was Indicted in June.

On April 26, the San Angelo Fire Department were dispatched to the 1300 block of Orient. When they arrived flames were visible in the back of the house so they began to put out the fire. Gabriel Luna, 40, was in the back of the house attempting to put out the fire when firefighters arrived.

Once the firefighters noticed Luna they instructed him to take his dog and move to the front of the of the house. Luna went to the front of the house then, BOOM, an explosion happened. According to the affidavit, Luna piled a large amount of debris including trash, metal stands, wood, misc yard debris, and three oxygen cylinder tanks and set it on fire. The fire caused the oxygen tanks to explode and injured three first responders.

Police later spoke with Luna and he admitted to them that he did start the fire to get rid of trash. Once taken into custody, Luna was reportedly uncooperative and defensive. Officers at the scene also saw Luna laughing about the incident after the explosion and showed no remorse. 

He was charged with arson of a building, habitat, or vehicle causing damage.

On June 5, Luna was indicted and is currently in the Tom Green County Jail on a $23,000 bond. His initial pre-trial will begin on August 6 at 2:00 p.m.
