2 Bodies Found Floating in Rio Grande
DEL RIO, TX – U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Eagle Pass Station found the bodies of two men floating in the Rio Grande River within three hours of each other, Friday.
On June 7, agents from the Eagle Pass Station found the two bodies while conducting marine operations. The first body was found near Eagle Pass Bridge No.1. The second body was discovered less than a half-mile upriver. The Eagle Pass Fire Department and Border Patrol marine agents recovered both bodies from the river. Local authorities were notified and took custody of the bodies.
This discovery is in addition to the bodies found on a ranch in the Del Rio Sector last week. On June 6 and 7, U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Carrizo Springs Station found the remains of two deceased people then.
There have been 17 deaths reported within Del Rio Sector since the beginning of Fiscal Year 2019.
“The recovery of the deceased is a grim task that Border Patrol agents too often carry out,” said Del Rio Sector Chief Patrol Agent Raul L. Ortiz. “Attempting to cross the Rio Grande is dangerous even under the best of conditions and many times it ends in tragedy.”
The Del Rio Border Patrol Sector is part of the Joint Task Force-West South Texas Corridor, which leverages federal, state and local resources to combat transnational criminal organizations. To report suspicious activity call the Del Rio Sector’s toll free number at 1-866-511-8727.
