Man Arrested for Cutting Man's Throat Over a Bicycle and a Phone

SAN ANGELO, TX – A man was arrested yesterday after breaking into a strangers home, cutting his throat, and stealing his phone and bicycle.

On June 2, the San Angelo Police Department was dispatched to the area of Preusser and Main for call about a man being robber. Once they arrived they met with the victim who was visibly bleeding right under his Adam's Apple.

Police say that while the victim was sleeping a man entered the room and put a pocket knife against his throat. He then received a punch to the eye that caused visible swelling.

The man then started to press and cut his throat when the victim escaped and ran out the door with nothing but pants on. Before the man left he took the victim's phone and bicycle but left behind a black bag, a watch, and a green bicycle.

While talking with police the victim noticed a man riding a bicycle and told police that he was the man who attacked him. Police tried to stop the man but he evaded them on his bicycle. They eventually caught him at the 100 block of N Malone.

After detaining him, police found a pocket knife with visible blood on it. The victim later confirmed that it was the knife that cut him. They also found a cell phone and the victim was able to unlock it proving that it is his.

Police identified the man as Chad Lavere, 39, and he was originally arrested on active warrant for failure to appear. He was later charged with burglary of a habitation with intent to commit other felony.

He is currently in the Tom Green County Jail on a $75,250 bond.
