Man Indicted After Accidentally Shooting and Killing Officer

 

MIDLAND, TX -- The man who shot an officer in March while in his own home has been indicted. 

On March 5, The Midland Police Department were dispatched to a burglary alarm at around 2:30 a.m. The five-year veteran officer Hayden Heidelberg and other officers made "a loud announcement" that he was entering the home.

The homeowner reportedly mistook Heidelberg for an intruder. Heidelberg was shot above his bullet-proof vest by the homeowner.

The owner of the home is David Charles WIlson. After Wilson shot the officer, he was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. 

According to the BCHP, Wilson has been indicted for manslaughter. If convicted he could be facing two to twenty years in prison.
