ROBERT LEE, TX -- The Robert Lee mayor who is accused of abusing a City debit card for personal use was indicted by the Coke County Grand Jury earlier this month.
Allyson Crenshaw, 40, was indicted on May 9 on one count of debit card abuse. She was arrested and charged on March 25 after an investigation alleged she used between $750 and $2,500 from a City-issued debit card tied to the City of Robert Lee General Fund.
The alleged abuse started on Sept. 12, 2018. The improprieties were first noticed in December when it's said that Crenshaw paid her electric bill with the card.
At a City Council meeting on Feb. 4, The Observer/Enterprise reported that the council passed a motion to "restrict the mayor's access to City Hall."
A formal investigation was opened by the Coke County Sheriff's Office the very next day.
This is a developing story.
