SAPD Warns Hot Weather May Bring Burglars

SAN ANGELO, TX -- The San Angelo Police Department sent out a reminder on Friday stating that hot weather may bring in burglars.

According to the SAPD Facebook Page, as the weather turns warmer, more citizens will be out and about. This is true for thieves as well. They will be targeting vehicles and residences. Here are a few crime prevention tips to help keep you and your family safe and secure.

Please do not leave anything of value in your vehicles (including weapons). Don't leave anything in your vehicle unattended even for a few seconds. Normally thieves do not smash windows as it attracts attention. But if you leave your vehicle unsecured it will make an attractive target for a thief to rummage through it looking for money, credit/debit cards and vehicle keys and key fobs.

The following are reminders on how to keep your vehicle safe:

  • Lock your doors!
  • Keep your garage door secured at night!
  • Remove valuables from your vehicle!
  • Leave a light on both inside and outside your residence!
  • Call your police department for a vacation check of your residence!
  • Have a neighbor pick up your mail, newspaper, and move your trashcans!

Remember if you "See Something--Say Something". If you see suspicious activity, call us to check it out. (9-1-1 for crimes in progress/325-657-4315 for Non-Emergency Dispatch). Many times we solve cases based upon the public's tips. We could use all the help we can to stop this illegal activity. Together we can deter crime and make it harder for a thief to make us a victim.

Should be warned that Texas is a castle law state and citizens have the right to protect their property with deadly force. Break into the wrong place and you may get some hot lead instead.

I have plenty of heaters in my home. Break in and you'll be lit up like a Christmas tree. That would be the painless way out. I could just let my Dobermans eat you.
