DEL RIO, TX -- Border Patrol agents with the Rock Springs Station apprehended a convicted sex offender Thursday.
Agents arrested a 26-year-old Mexican National who had entered the United States illegally.
Records show the man was convicted of sexual assault of a child in Washington state in 2011 and was sentenced to one year in prison.
He was last deported in 2018.
"Violent criminals continue to illegally cross the border and make their way further into the United States." said Del Rio sector acting chief patrol agent Matthew J. Hudak.
"Our agents are committed to preventing these types of criminals from entering and harming our communities."
The criminal alien faces charges of re-entry after deportation which carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison.
All individuals arrested by the Border Patrol undergo record checks using biometrics to ensure those with criminal histories or gang affiliation are identified.
