UPDATE: Man Arrested For Manslaughter In Midland Officer Shooting

 

MIDLAND, TX -- The law enforcement community is mourning the death of an officer with the Midland Police Department.

According to multiple media reports, the officer has been identified by Mayor Jerry Morales as Hayden Heidelberg, a five-year veteran to Midland PD.

An email obtained by multiple media outlets detailed what is believed to have happened.

Heidelberg, along with three other officers, was investigating a burglar alarm at a Midland home around 2:30 a.m., according to one report. Heidelberg made "a loud announcement" that he was entering the home. The homeowner reportedly mistook Heidelberg for an intruder. Heidelberg was shot above his bullet-proof vest by the homeowner.

Officers tried to treat Heidelberg's injuries and rush him to the hospital. He was pronounced dead at 8:30 a.m.

Texas Rangers are currently investigating the shooting

Update:

A man has been charged with manslaughter following the death of an officer on Tuesday Morning.

According to the Midland County Sheriffs' David Charles Wilson was arrested for manslaughter. His bond was set at $75,000 bond.
